I am writing to express my sincere thanks to Capt. Ben Patterson of Otter Point Volunteer Fire Department who instantly assisted my husband Jonathan and I on Aug. 14, when I slipped, fell and fractured my foot on the side of the road while walking our dogs, on our first kid-free date night since COVID.

On Saturday evening I went to hear Valdy at the Mary Winspear Centre. The health and safety protocols were rigorous, the Bodine Hall organized in an attractive yet appropriately distanced manner and the music was excellent; a job well done!

It is so exciting to see that a few courageous selfless caring individuals have established a blockade camp to stop Teal Jones from making a logging road up into the headwaters of Fairy Creek. These forest protectors know the value of the dwindling old-growth ecosystems B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ a priceless historical national treasure B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ something which the NDP government continues to ignore, sidestep while in fact permitting and encouraging continued old-growth logging.

I want to thank the Saanich employees who have been doing a great job keeping the trails in the parks usable. These trails are more important than ever for fun and fitness during the COVID pandemic. Your hard work is appreciated.

I would like to say how very much I and others are enjoying the Ocean Boulevard and Esquimalt Lagoon now that barriers block it from being used as a thoroughfare. Other walkers agree with me that with no cars to avoid, just being there is a peaceful and lovely experience.

I live in the Lagoon neighbourhood and would like to voice my concern over the continuing closure of Ocean Boulevard. I havenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™t heard any argument in favour of a permanent enclosure. Perhaps councillors Day, Baxter or Parkinson could just write to the paper and let us know why this is a good thing?
