GroundhogBԪַs Guide to Suing Big Oil set for Feb. 2 at Broadview United Church
The wide-ranging and terrifying wildfires in the Los Angeles area underline why the state of California is suing Big Oil to recover climate change costs. Wealthy fossil fuel companies knowingly caused and continue to worsen the dramatic climate change that we are all experiencing in ways like atmospheric rivers, extreme heat, flooding, drought, uncharacteristic weather patterns, increasingly severe storms, and of course wildfires.
Here in B.C., municipalities and regional districts can join a class-action lawsuit against Big Oil to recover the kinds of costs that are now unfairly borne exclusively by taxpayers.
GroundhogBԪַs Guide to Suing Big Oil is a free event on Feb. 2 (GroundhogBԪַs Day) at 2 p.m. at Broadview United Church, 3703 St. AidanBԪַs St. in Saanich. Groundhog says, BԪַForget about my shadow! ItBԪַs a climate emergency! Find out what IBԪַve really been pondering this winter. . .BԪַ
The event is sponsored by the regional Sue Big Oil team (West Coast Environmental Law) and Broadview UnitedBԪַs Caring for Creation group. BԪַ and live speakers will lead to discussion highlighting local actions. Nine B.C. municipalities, including View Royal, are already supporting the class-action lawsuit. Will yours be next?
