BԪַMayor WestonBԪַ: Grade 2 student serves as Saanich mayor for the morning

Weston Taiji was welcomed by Saanich mayor and police chief for a morning of fun and leadership

It's not every day a mayor gets to take a backseat, but Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock did just that, knowing the municipality was in good hands for a few hours.

On Jan. 23, Murdock welcomed Grade 2 student Weston Taiji as BԪַmayor for the morningBԪַ after he won the mayor and councilBԪַs holiday card contest last year.

Weston took part in various activities at the municipal hall, including creating a BԪַchain of officeBԪַ out of Froot Loops, visiting the council chambers, and touring Saanich police and fire stations. He also met with staff and received the coveted BԪַcandy key to the District.BԪַ

Murdock noticed WestonBԪַs enthusiasm and decision-making skills, saying he could see the young studentBԪַs photo on the wall of Saanich mayors one day.

Police Chief Constable Dean Duthie had the pleasure of meeting with Weston.

BԪַMayor Weston, we were honoured to have you visit this morning,BԪַ read a statement by Saanich Police. BԪַIt was our pleasure to show you around our department and give you the chance to inspect a few of our vehicles. Wishing you all the best!BԪַ
