Budget season has arrived at the City of Langford and the public has been invited to have their say.
As part of the ongoing discussions, which launched at the Jan. 20 committee of the whole meeting, the city has launched an online budget survey for residents.
"This is the first-ever budget survey conducted by the city," said Mayor Scott Goodmanson in a news release. "I encourage every member of the community to participate by sharing their thoughts with council.
"Community feedback is invaluable and will contribute to shaping the services and programs that truly benefit our community."
The budget survey will remain open until the end of the day on Feb. 9. The results of the survey will be presented during the Feb. 20 committee of the whole meeting.
The city has said it encourages the community to participate in the survey, as "it is one of the considerations for council when approving a budget that reflects the community's priorities and values."
At the Jan. 20 meeting, budget deliberations kicked off with a presentation from staff detailing a budget timeline and an overview of the budget and property tax process.
There was also a review of the "significant budget pressures" for the city in 2025, which include RCMP and fire department staffing, the downloading of the cost of the E-Comm 911 service from the province to Langford and the recent acquisitions of the Westhills YW/YMCA Langford Aquatic Centre and Woodlands Park.
As required by provincial legislation, every year the city adopts a five-year financial plan (budget), which reflects the councilB次元官网网址檚 "fiscal priorities and the complexity of maintaining and improving services for a rapidly growing city."
The 2025-2029 proposed five-year financial plan will be made available to the public at the Feb. 20 committee of the whole meeting.
