The Maritime Museum of British Columbia (MMBC) has improved accessibility at its site, thanks to funding from the City of Victoria and provincial grants.
Located at 744 Douglas St., the MMBC moved into its current space in 2021. While upgrades like interactive exhibits, sensory kits, and accessible program areas have been introduced, the heavy entrance and office doors remained a significant barrier.
Fortunately, with the funding, push-button door openers have now been installed, making the space easier to access for visitors, staff, and volunteers.
The museum welcomes visitors year-round, with programs like Museum Tots, creative workshops, Sensory Hours, and more. It also has three feature exhibits planned for the year, all open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
