RCMP costs, tax increases, service fees, investments and more are set to be discussed at Sooke's next budget deliberation meeting on March 10.
Currently, the proposed draft budget would see a 15.29 per cent tax increase, which would equate to a $236.22 annual increase for the average single-family homeowner. The new funds will directly support essential services such as fire rescue, policing, road maintenance, parks and infrastructure.
The district outlined RCMP policing costs, E-Comm service fees, asset management investments and general district operating cost increases as some of the main factors putting pressure on this yearB次元官网网址檚 budget.
Following councilB次元官网网址檚 direction from previous budget discussions, staff have developed four budget options, with tax increases ranging from 9.99 per cent to 15.29 per cent.
At the upcoming meeting, B次元官网网址渃ouncil will be considering the trade-offs between tax relief and long-term financial stability,B次元官网网址 district communications manager Christina Moog said in a release.
The March 10 meeting is set to shape the districtB次元官网网址檚 final 2025B次元官网网址2029 financial plan before readings of the budget on March 24, followed by an open hall on April 2, and the final budget adoption on April 5.
The district is encouraging residents to follow the process, with the March 10 meeting set to be livestreamed on YouTube and open to the public in person at council chambers, located at 2205 Otter Point Rd.
