A new feline mother and her brood are on the mend after Victoria fire crews discovered her suffering the effects of smoke in a Thursday (Aug. 29) morning fire.

Victoria firefighters were met with heavy smoke billowing from 950 Humboldt St. shortly after 7:30 a.m.

The fire was quickly upgraded to a general alarm, Victoria Fire said in a social media post.

Fortunately, the fire had already been extinguished, though there was significant water damage throughout the space due to the buildingB次元官网网址檚 sprinkler system.

While the crew was checking for hot spots and ensuring the fire was completely extinguished, a firefighter discovered a female cat that had been overwhelmed by smoke.

B次元官网网址淲ithout hesitation, she brought the cat outside and began administering oxygen. As the cat started to recover, the occupant of the unit anxiously approached and mentioned that there were six two-week-old kittens still inside,B次元官网网址� the post reads.

Firefighters re-entered the smoke-filled unit and found the kittens huddled together in a closet. The kittens were gently placed into a helmet and brought out to safety.
