Oak Bay police investigate fire in Carnarvon Park washroom

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 62 service calls during the week of March 3-9.

Oak Bay police were alerted to a suspected arson in the Carnarvon Park washroom.

The Oak Bay Fire Department informed police of a March 4 fire in the male washroom at the park. The incident, believed to have occurred overnight, resulted in damage to a urinal, which required replacement at an estimated cost of $1,500. There are currently no suspects. 

Impaired driver on Beach Drive

A speeding driver had their vehicle impounded after failing a roadside screening test.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on March 4, officers conducting traffic enforcement on Beach Drive pulled over a vehicle travelling 20 km/h over the limit. The driver, a 42-year-old Saanich man, was found to have an odour of alcohol on his breath. Following the use of a roadside screening device, the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and had his vehicle impounded.

Theft at liquor store

Police responded to a report of theft at a liquor store on the 2100-block of Oak Bay Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. March 5. Police say a man and woman reportedly worked together to distract staff and steal approximately $1,000 worth of wine. Police are working on identifying the two suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
