The Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a bus driver being slapped and spat on by a rider.

Police responded to an incident at around 6 p.m. Aug. 15 where a 29-year-old man reportedly "became irate" because he was advised that the bus was not leaving for 20 minutes, so he then assaulted the driver.

The man was arrested for assault and held for a bail hearing, as the man had two outstanding charges for assault and assault causing bodily harm in the Victoria area, according to police.

The bus driver was not injured and the man is awaiting his next court appearance.
