NORTH SAANICH BԪַ Local photographer Colin Franks has placed yet again in the annual province-wide BC SPCA photo contest.
With nearly 600 entries in this yearBԪַs wildlife photo contest, Franks placed second with his shot of a male Ruddy duck doing its odd and interesting courtship display of beating its chest with rapid tempo to create a display of bubbles, hopefully impressing any nearby female.
The photo was taken in the Cariboo region of B.C., and Franks said he was in the water up to his chest (with waders) to achieve this magical low-level perspective.
Last year he placed third, and the year before that, first, in this highly competitive contest. His 2018 BԪַBirds of British ColumbiaBԪַ calendars are now available.
You can see his other images on his website, Facebook page and Instagram.
