On Jan. 8, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce announced the election of a new board of directors.

The five business and community leaders, each of whom is set to serve a two-year term, will work with local decision-makers to support the region's business interests and maximize the value of Chamber membership.

The new board members are: Ashka Wirk (principal of Wirk Consulting), Corey Gillon (CEO of Peninsula Co-op), Elizabeth M. Brown (president and CEO of the Victoria Airport Authority), Mary Lou Newbold (chief eyewear officer of Mayfair Optometric Clinic) and Spencer Walker (director and team lead at CIBC Commercial Banking).

Christina Clarke, the executive director of the Indigenous Prosperity Centre, has assumed the role of board chair, now responsible for overseeing the board's operations.
