Look up: developers propose tallest Island building for downtown Victoria

The building would be 35-storeys, fulfilling nearly 30 per cent of Victoria's annual housing targets

Vancouver-based developer Reliance Properties will share their rezoning plans with the public for a 35-storey mixed-use development, which would be the tallest building on Vancouver Island if it comes to fruition.

On Monday, Jan. 27, the developer will hold an open house to share their plans for the 1520 Blanshard Street building, currently a small office building leased by the B.C. Government.

The project includes a 5-storey podium with housing, commercial and retail space, amenities, an activated public plaza, and a 35-storey residential building, which exceeds the cityB次元官网网址檚 official site plan by 11 storeys.

The proposed 321 homes fulfill nearly 30 per cent of VictoriaB次元官网网址檚 annual housing targets and exceed the cityB次元官网网址檚 family housing requirements, with 20 per cent of the homes being two bedrooms and 11 per cent being three bedrooms, according to the developer.

B次元官网网址淰ictoria would also benefit from off-site contributions. Currently, the tallest building on the Island is Hudson Place, which stands at 25 storeys.

The public is invited to the open house on Jan. 27 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at 2100 Douglas Street.
