MetchosinB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s proposed official community plan amendments will come under scrutiny at a public hearing set for Feb. 3.
The bylaw amends a 15-year-old Village Centre land use designation. The goal of the official community plan (OCP) policy for the Village Centre is to recognize existing commercial activity and provide for limited expansion; allow opportunities for home businesses compatible with maintaining a rural community; prevent ribbon commercial development; and discourage commercial land uses that conflict with the rural and agricultural character of the community.
The current changes aim to re-enact amendments introduced in the 2010 Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 565 and introduce minor housekeeping amendments such as clarification of maps, updated references to legislation and minor changes to the drafting language to improve clarity.
The amendment has already been endorsed by the Agricultural Land Commission, with a public hearing serving as the penultimate requirement before potential approval.
The change impacts properties at Happy Valley Road where it intersects with Metchosin and William Head roads.
Relevant documents and copies of the proposed bylaw can be viewed at Metchosin Municipal Hall, 4450 Happy Valley Rd.
The public hearing will be held in council chambers at the hall on Feb. 3. at 6 p.m.
