Critically acclaimed Canadian opera singer Marion Newman returns to the University of Victoria this summer to teach at the School of Music.
A 2022 UVic Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, NewmanB次元官网网址檚 traditional name is NegeB次元官网网址檊a and she is of Kwagiulth and St贸:l艒 First Nations descent with English, Irish and Scottish heritage.

Newman joins the School of Music as an assistant professor on July 1. Currently based in Toronto, she plans to continue hosting CBCB次元官网网址檚 Saturday Afternoon at the Opera from Victoria.
No stranger to local audiences, Newman recently appeared in City Opera VancouverB次元官网网址檚 Songs from the Uproar and is currently workshopping a new opera based on Thomas KingB次元官网网址檚 2020 comedic novel Indians on Vacation. She was also lauded for her performances in Pacific Opera VictoriaB次元官网网址檚 Missing, which gave voice B次元官网网址� in English and Gitksan B次元官网网址� to stories of missing and murdered Indigenous women.
