The City of Langford will once again transform into a winter wonderland for the holiday season, with a calendar of events packed full of festive fun.

The annual Winter Festival includes a diverse array of attractions, says the city in a news release, combining new additions with long-standing favourites suitable for families and individuals of all ages.

New attractions this year adding extra sparkle to the season include a holiday carousel, a captivating Lego exhibit, matinee movie screenings of the holiday favourite, 'The Polar Express' and new interactive holiday lights displays, which will illuminate the city.

Inspired by Langford during the holidays, the special Lego exhibit will be on display at Westshore Town Centre from Dec. 8 to 22.

Other winter festival activities include Teen Winter Ice Skating, where Sooke School District students can enjoy free outdoor ice skating at City Centre Park on certain Saturdays, and the popular Tinsel Gazebo featuring hundreds of tinsel ornaments and holiday lights in Veterans Memorial Park.

Kicking off the festivities is the 'Annual Langford Light Up' on Saturday Dec. 7 with events taking place at both the Langford Station Arts and Cultural District (720 Station Ave.) and Veterans Memorial Park.

Between 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Langford Station exciting activities include performances from PACE Musical Theatre, Ablaze Choir, Pacific Edge Chorus, a balloon artist, food trucks, a holiday market and much more.

Over at Veterans Memorial Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the place will be buzzing with festive activities including a holiday market, musical performances by Mostly Motown Christmas and Westshore Community Band, cookie decorating, ice carving, free hot dogs and hot chocolate (till supplies last) and the annual Light Up display.

Santa will also be making an appearance, arriving at 5.15 p.m. on the Langford Fire Truck, before settling in at the Tinsel Gazebo for photo opportunities.

The much-anticipated sequoia tree lighting will take place at 7.15 p.m., followed by the Island Equipment Owners Association lighted truck parade, which will pass through Langford with its festively lit and decorated trucks.
