LETTER: Supportive housing needs to be spread across Greater Victoria

LETTER: Supportive housing needs to be spread across Greater Victoria

People in need of supportive housing are our brothers and sisters, they are our sons and daughters, and in some cases they are our mothers and fathers. They are for the most part folks from our community who have experienced some difficulties and are in need of a helping hand. We need to welcome some of them to the Peninsula and be grateful that we have the means and opportunity to help people in need transition to a better future.

I am writing as a former minister of mental health and addiction in Manitoba and as a current resident of Central Saanich in support of the supportive housing and affordable housing initiative on Prosser Road.

I read the story about the name change of the McDonald Campground to SMONECTEN with some degree of sadness.
LETTER: Lock up the drug dealers

LETTER: Lock up the drug dealers

Our legal system is in part to blame for the increasing street drug problem. The system is too weak to do a proper job of curtailing the supply and sale of drugs.

Re: BԪַGreater Victoria governance needs an overhaul.BԪַ The letter writersBԪַ observations about the dysfunctional municipal governance in Greater Victoria are spot on. However, the responsibility to BԪַstraighten out this messBԪַ does not fall to the provincial government, but to the electorate themselves.

As a grandparent with a child soon to be in SD 61, I have been following recent music program cuts in Victoria. I am pleased that at least band is restored. And as a former district music supervisor in Prince George; program director of the Kennedy CenterBԪַs National online Arts Education website, ArtsEdge.com; former B.C.
LETTER: More oversight needed for airport authority

LETTER: More oversight needed for airport authority

It boggles the rational mind how Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) can get away without a formal and detailed environmental impact statement prior to marching forth with this warehouse development.
LETTER: Dogs need a space to run free

LETTER: Dogs need a space to run free

This is directed at the writers who were urging Saanich to keep dogs on leash or away from Mt. Doug and Cadboro Bay beach. I am really sorry that you encountered rambunctious dogs who were not being properly managed by their owners. Dogs are allowed off-leash if they are under the control of their owners BԪַ and clearly these were not. However, I am asking Saanich not to take away off-leash privileges from all dogs and their owners.
