LETTER: Seniors deserve a place to call home

Amy White, in her letter on age-restricted buildings , expressed viewpoints that are entrenched in the context of a valued citizen. The older citizens of Victoria are put in devalued social roles and not consistently given the support they need. Fair treatment for everybody does not mean everybody gets the same. Fair treatment means everybody gets what they need.

After hearing of multiple ducking rescue operations from street grates in Oak Bay, Sannich, and Victoria, I have a suggestion. No studies needed. In baby duck season and around noted areas, lift grates and set a sturdy, wide mesh across the hole, replace the grate, trim edges, and use one zap strap to secure mesh to the grate and remove all after hatching season.
