For the first time Coast Collective in Colwood is turning its attention to some of the shortest artists in the region.

The Our Neighbourhood ChildrenB次元官网网址檚 Art Show is giving children from the age of two right up to Grade 6 students the chance to have their work shown in the professional gallery at the Colwood-based art centre.

B次元官网网址淚t grew from the realization that there are a lot of even younger artists,B次元官网网址� said Cindy Moyer,  executive director. B次元官网网址淔or a first show of its kind itB次元官网网址檚 really encouraging and beautiful. ItB次元官网网址檚 just so sweet.B次元官网网址�

Among the budding young artists in Kendall MacMillan, a Grade 3 student at Hans Helgesen. Her painting of a frog fits in with the showB次元官网网址檚 theme, which is a look at the environment in our own backyard.

B次元官网网址淚 kind of like frogs and thereB次元官网网址檚 a lot of different kinds of tree frogs in our neighbourB次元官网网址檚 pond,B次元官网网址� said MacMillan.

Moyer said itB次元官网网址檚 the purity in the perspective which makes art from children so unique.

B次元官网网址淭hey just do what they feel, instead of having a filter,B次元官网网址� she said. B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 wonderful to feel that energy come through in their work.B次元官网网址�

The show is judged and winners will  receive various art prints and prizes, including passes to the  Robert Bateman Centre.

The 217 pieces, including drawings, paintings, sculptures and more, will be on display at Coast Collective (3221 Heatherbell Rd.) until Sunday, May 18.
