The drowning of a young woman at Thetis Lake is made all the more tragic when drunken beachgoers hurl abuse and beer cans at emergency rescue crews attending the scene.

West Shore RCMP officers, with the assistance of View Royal firefighters, haul away several aggressive, intoxicated men taunting emergency crews near the incident location. View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst calls it the most B次元官网网址渟hocking thing I have seen in my career.B次元官网网址

A long-standing statue of Jesus Christ meets its end. Devotees at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish on Goldstream Avenue blame late-night hooligans for destroying the approximately 50-year-old statue, which sat in the churchB次元官网网址檚 garden.

It was knocked over late at night and discovered by staff coming in the next morning.

1996

The man who allegedly staged a smoke-in outside Langford municipal council chambers in June is set to appear in Western Communities Provincial Court. The charges stem from his protest of LangfordB次元官网网址檚 anti-hemp bylaw. B次元官网网址淚B次元官网网址檝e been trying to get arrested to have my day in court for three years,B次元官网网址 he says.

Not even the death of a friend on the rocks would deter one youth from jumping off the cliffs at Thetis Lake. He uttered those daredevil words just days after another woman was hospitalized after she brushed against the rock face during an errant dive.

1986

Two men are arrested and face charges that include forcible confinement, after a couple is prevented from leaving their home. Colwood RCMP call it a landlord/tenant dispute and say there was a long-standing dispute between two families residing on the same property. The complainant said he and his wife were prevented from leaving their trailer home by men who used a variety of tactics, including uttering threats. During the course of the confinement, a shot was fired.

After a week of conflicting emotions, convicted publisher Ernst Zundel did not speak at LangfordB次元官网网址檚 Luxton Hall during a Canadian Free Speech League meeting. The groupB次元官网网址檚 previous announcement that Zundel, who was convicted in 1985 for publishing false statements about the Holocaust, would give a talk in Langford sparked protests that ultimately played a part in the cancellation.
