A nice walk in the View Royal woods may soon be followed with playtime for the children.

View Royal council has earmarked $100,000 in this yearB次元官网网址檚 budget to build a playground in Portage Park, possibly by late summer.

B次元官网网址淎lthough it sounds like a lot of money, it never really goes that far when you start buying playground equipment,B次元官网网址� said Coun. David Screech, chair of the parks and recreation advisory committee, which endorsed the plan.

B次元官网网址淭hat is to prepare the site, put down the necessary things and buy playground equipment.B次元官网网址�

About $10,000 for the amenity comes from a townhouse development on Island Highway, while the rest comes from the parks equipment reserve fund and casino funding.

The design for the playground is not yet determined, but it will target five to 12 year olds. The site will be an area near Island Highway and the Four Mile Pub parking lot.

B次元官网网址淭hereB次元官网网址檚 quite a nice, open grassy area and itB次元官网网址檚 exactly where the (Capital Regional District) E&N trail is going to come through,B次元官网网址� Screech said.

The drive to create the playground came from residents in the area, he added.

The 2014 budget still needs final council approval.
