New playground equipment encourages accessible play

Grand re-opening of Twinflower Park takes place Sept. 9

Kids will have the chance to create new memories at Twinflower Park in the Highlands beginning this month.

The playground equipment at the park has been replaced with new state-of-the-art equipment which meets accessibility goals for inclusive play for children between the ages of two and 12.

The upgrades are a result of a $30,000 contribution from the federal governmentBԪַs Canada 150 Community Infrastructure program.

BԪַWhether itBԪַs horseback riding, playing baseball or exploring the playground, the improvements to Twinflower Park will provide a place for the Highlands community to come together and make lasting memories for years to come,BԪַ said Navdeep Bains, minister of innovation, science and economic development and minister responsible for western economic diversification Canada in a statement.

Residents are invited to attend the grand re-opening of the playground, located at 1560 Millstream Rd., on Saturday, Sept. 9, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The re-opening will be followed by the Highlands Family Fling, which includes live music, games, food and a market.

The fling takes place from noon to 5 p.m. at Caleb Pike Heritage Park, across from Twinflower Park. For more information visit .
