Saanich-based ceramic artist Meira Mathison has been working in the field for some time and helped organize the 30th annual Fired Up: Contemporary Works in Clay exhibition and sale in Metchosin.
As a veteran of the "pottery" scene B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ which has become so much more than that given the creativity of those involved, she appreciates that younger artists are getting involved and broadening the scope of a medium whose practitioners have worked hard move beyond the functional approach of potters past.
While Mathison's work has evolved through the years, she points to artisans such as Fairfield-based Samantha Dickie as examples of the talented up-and-coming younger artists in the local field.
Artists from around B.C. displayed their work at Fired Up last Friday through Sunday, transforming the Metchosin Community Hall into a beautiful fantasy land of clay and colour.
