When Charlene Davis became president of the Rotary Club of Comox a few years ago, she was mandated to undertake a project of her own.
With this in mind, Davis had the idea of creating houses out of sea containers, aiming to provide shelter for members of Comox ValleyB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s unhoused population.
This initial proposition eventually blossomed into a fully-fledged non-profit organization called WeCan Shelter Society.
As of June 9, the group is currently building its 10th sea container home in CourtenayB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Maple Pool Campground.
Thanks to the work of devoted volunteers and generous private donations, Davis says that this project would have never seen the light of day without their help.
