A Sooke football player will test his skills among the elite U17 athletes in the nation this week.
Grade 11 offensive guard Ben Hassett, 16, is Vancouver IslandBԪַs sole representative in the (CFC) Prospects Game showcase on Friday (May 26) in Ottawa.
With only 11 players from British Columbia earning the coveted opportunity, the CFC Prospects game, which will feature CanadaBԪַs top 77 football players born between 2005 and 2006, Hassett was handpicked from nationwide tryouts.
Hassett, an offensive tackle and guard, played for the Belmont Bulldogs during the 2022 high school football season and looks forward to showcasing his abilities.
He secured his place in the prospects game after an invitation to try out in a selection process featuring a professional combine setting, including the 40-yard dash, shuttle, vertical, and broad jump events.

Lee Barette, the president of CanadaFootballChat.com, expressed his excitement about watching the players compete in this yearBԪַs game. He highlighted the improved roster compared to last year, noting the significance of five players from the previous game already receiving college offers.

In HassettBԪַs eyes, the game is the next step towards playing university football in Canada before moving on to professional football.
The CFC Prospects Game will begin at 11 a.m. PDT and will be aired on TSN. It will also be live-streamed on the TSN website.
