Developers of a controversial project proposed for 1934 Hovey Rd. are inviting Central Saanich residents to an in-person meeting to review their updated proposal for the affordable housing project.

Aryze Developments said they have made several revisions to the project to ensure their proposal fully complies with the official community plan. Among other changes, the parkade entrance has been moved to East Saanich Road and the building's height has been lowered to two four-storey structures.

Located at 1934-66 Hovey Rd. and 7551 East Saanich Rd., the proposed development in partnership with Legion Manor Victoria, will feature two new purpose-built rental buildings.

The East Building (Legion) consists of 57 affordable studio and one-bedroom units for seniors and veterans while the West Building (market rental), consisting of 130 homes ranging from studio to three-bedroom, is for the local workforce.

On Dec. 9, 2024, a public hearing on the contentious housing project was cancelled following a recommendation from district staff who was informed Aryze wanted to revise its development application in response to community input.

B次元官网网址淲e value the feedback weB次元官网网址檝e received from the council and the community, which has guided us in making positive revisions to our proposal for 1934 Hovey Rd.," says Chris Quigley, director of development at Aryze. "Given the extent of these changes, we believe itB次元官网网址檚 essential to host a dedicated session to present the updated proposal in its entirety and be available to answer any questions from the community."

Quigley adds the goal is for residents to leave with a clear understanding of the revisions made throughout the development process and how these updates remain aligned with Central SaanichB次元官网网址檚 policy guidelines.

The meeting, which will take place at St. Mary's Anglican Church on Wednesday, Jan.15, at 7 p.m., will feature a quick presentation, Q&A, and an opportunity to speak with Aryze representatives in person.
