40th annual 'Jake' charity tournament held ahead of training camp in Penticton

Vancouver Canucks players, coaches, management and alumni filled Surrey's Northview Golf Course during the 40th annual  (aka The Jake) on Monday, Sept. 9.

A light drizzle fell as hundreds of people arrived at the course for breakfast and a day of golf in a season-kickoff fundraiser for Canucks for Kids Fund and Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation.

The shotgun-style tournament salutes Jake Milford, the CanucksBԪַ general manager in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He died of pancreatic cancer in 1984.

This year, the fee for a single golfer jumped from $1,500 to $2,500, according to info on the event website (). The fee was $7,500 for a team of three to play with a "celebrity" at the popular tournament.

Presented by KPMG, BԪַThe JakeBԪַ tourney marks the start of the Canucks hockey season and will be followed by training camp for the team, Sept. 19-22 in Penticton at South Okanagan Events Centre. The team's first preseason game is Tuesday, Sept. 24 against Seattle Kraken.
