JOCK TALK: Lots of tennis action this weekend at Bear Mountain

The Bear Mountain Tennis Centre hosts its first event this weekend with the 35th annual Gllangcolme Tennis Festival. The triple-knockout, mixed-doubles tournament continues on the new red clay courts all weekend until Sunday, June 25.

Turning to the Bear Mountain links, register for the sixth annual Bear Mountain MenB次元官网网址檚 Amateur Golf Tournament taking place on July 8 and 9. Registration for non-members is $225 and $100 for members. For details, visit .

And coming up on the Bear Mountain Valley Course is the Legacy Golf Tournament, a benefit for Victoria Cool Aid Society Friday, July 14. Beginning at 1:30 p.m., the tourney supports the construction of new housing for the homeless. For information and event details, visit .

Tonight (June 23), is Alumni Night for the Victoria Shamrocks, who take on the Maple Ridge Burrards at 7:30 p.m. The B次元官网网址橰ocks will retire the jersey of Ranjit Dillon and players from the 1997 Mann Cup Championship team will drop the ball before the game.

The pre-game B次元官网网址渢ailgateB次元官网网址 begins at 5:30 p.m. with music and Triple OB次元官网网址檚 burgers by donation, with proceeds benefitting the Victoria Shamrocks Alumni and the Westshore Rotary Club.

Looking ahead, next Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1 bring the Mid-Season Championship featuring AMCA Dwarf Car Invitational, Stock Cars, Mini Stocks, Super Sprints and Hornets. In Div. 1 cricket, Metchosin travels to Beacon Hill Park pitch Saturday, June 24 to face the University team in a noon match-up. The next home game for the local players is Saturday, July 8 when they host the Alcos at noon.

The Div. 2 mid-week cricket schedule brings Central Saanich to the Metchosin Municipal Grounds turf Monday, June 26, for a tilt against the local squad.

ItB次元官网网址檚 a busy weekend in high-performance baseball, with the Victoria Eagles and Victoria Mariners each playing four games. On Saturday, June 24 the Eagles host the Abbotsford Cardinals in a Lambrick Park doubleheader at 12:05 and 2:35 p.m. The same day, the Victoria Mariners host the Whalley Chiefs in a doubleheader with games at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at Layritz. Continuing Sunday, June 25, both teams switch competitors. The Eagles take on the Chiefs at 12:05 and 2:35 p.m. at Lambrick and the Mariners play the Cardinals at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Layritz Park.

Come Thursday, June 29, the two local teams square off in a 1:30 p.m. afternoon game at Lambrick.
