Camosun College claims two bronze medals during regional basketball championship

The Chargers beat the Langara Falcons 66-57 to claim third place at the tournament played at Douglas College over three days.

Guard Kathryn Candell led the Chargers with 25 points in 34 minutes played as Camosun wrapped up the tournament with a victory Saturday.

SaturdayB次元官网网址檚 victory was also reason to celebrate for Coun. Zac de Vries, whose sister, Jasmine, plays for Camosun.

Twenty-four hours earlier, the Chargers had lost by 20 points (84-64) against the Capilano Blues in the first of two semi-finals. Guard Tessa Lannon-Paakspu led the Chargers with 22 points in the game, whose outcome appeared settled in the first quarter, which Capilano won 26-6.

Capilano in turn lost the gold-medal game 82-77 against the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners.

Overall, the Chargers finished the tournament with a 2-1 record after opening the tournament with a 75-50 victory against the Okanagan College Coyotes in quarter-final action.

On the menB次元官网网址檚 side, Camosun College claimed bronze by beating Capilano 83-68. Dallas Hancox led Camosun with 21 points.

With their win, the Chargers recovered from their semi-final loss against the Vancouver Island Mariners, who had beaten the Chargers 90-67 en route to winning the gold medal 89-82 against Douglas College. Camosun College had reached the semi-final with a narrow but thrilling 93-91 victory over Langara.
