View Royal homeowners have rights when affected by commuter traffic

A reader responds to a letter from a Colwood resident about the traffic woes in View Royal.

Re:  (Letters, Oct. 21)

Miriam Starkl-Moser of Colwood writes to state she is part of the problem with the traffic woes and then goes on to lash out at residents of the area who have not created the problem. Astonishing; well, maybe not.

Most of the ratepayers of the neighourhood affected have resided here for over two decades. Having taken residence at that point in time,  the issues of the rat runners and the View Royal elementary school parking were non-existent. So, what has changed?

The advent of a self-absorbed, self-entitled BԪַmeBԪַ generation that wilfully ignores the causality link between their actions and the consequences.

The ratepayers who pay taxes for this disputed area are well within their rights to expect some action from the Town council to alleviate the conditions caused by the illegal transgressions being performed by rat-running motorists along what are not arterial roads.

After all, the sound and fury of what occurs there each morning affects their enjoyment of property and threatens their personal safety.  This, in turn, has consequences to property values in a negative fashion.
