A Black Press poll in December 2024 asked the question: What transportation issue affects you the most?  The results found 54.29% saw traffic congestion as the biggest transportation issue. I can almost assure you that it is much higher these days with bike lane issues, on Gorge Road, Tillicum Road and other major thoroughfares. Road rage is at an all-time high.

The next huge mistake is being discussed for Cook Street. I would love to know how many city planners have actually observed bike travel from Haultain to Hillside and from Hillside to Maplewood Drive? There are two quite steep hills along these routes. There are other bike lanes, like Haultain, crossing Cook Street to Blackwood and also Graham Avenue.  Very few bikes are seen on the steep incline of Haultain to Hillside, or from Hillside along Cook Street to Maplewood.

Not everybody can use a bike. What about the elderly and those with mobility issues? Do we put our groceries on the bike? How about going to appointments or even to a wedding, do we ride a bike?

I did not see these precious bike lanes cleared even once after our latest snowfall. Special ploughs will surely have to be purchased to clean their narrow spaces.  Yet another huge expense to the taxpayers.

Do we know how many millions have been spent on putting in these elaborate bike lanes, complete with traffic signals, signage, cement dividers, etc. I think that money could've been better used for the new Crystal Pool.

An October 2024 letter to the editor in the Saanich B次元官网网址 was from a cyclist who was seriously injured in a bike lane on Feltham Road. He sustained a separated shoulder, punctured lung, three cracked ribs, two cracked vertebrates, and a broken toe.  While in the hospital, he was told by a specialist that he wasn't the first person that this had happened to. He pointed out the concrete curb doesn't give the cyclist an out if the unexpected happens.

Please stop this insanity.
