International assistance good investment for Canada

The saving of lives an important initiative for government to be involved in

Re: (Letters, Sept. 28)

The Global Fund sounds like another boring initiative, until you put a face to the success of this program.

One need only Google the name Loyce Maturu to realize that CanadaB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s investment in the Global Fund is one of the most important investments we could ever make.

Millions of lives have been saved, and LoyceB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s life is among them B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ a life well worth saving.

I am proud to be Canadian and to know that we fund this initiative. If we are truly back on the world stage, let us show some leadership by increasing our Official Development Assistance and making the commitment to reach 0.7 per cent of gross national income within the next few years.

The 2017 budget is upcoming. Let us rattle the cages of our MPs and remind them that a better world for all will, in the end, benefit Canadians.
