West Shore RCMP arrest prolific offender

Suspect back behind bars 10 days after his release

A prolific offender is back behind bars just 10 days after his release from jail.

Michael Lund, 38, was arrested at the Juan de Fuca library parking lot after two people called RCMP saying they saw a man breaking into several vehicles, March 26.

"He was even brazen enough to sit in the vehicles," said West Shore RCMP acting Sgt. Kathy Rochlitz. "The two callers kept a close enough eye on him until police arrived. Without the responsible citizens in this case we would not have been able to catch the individual."

When police arrived and arrested Lund, they found he was carrying a stolen wallet, cash and a portable gaming device.

This arrest was 10 days after he had been released from jail for a similar offence.

Lund was arrested Feb. 14 for similar crimes at the Wal-Mart on Langford Parkway.

"The male entered at least three unlocked vehicles and tried several other car doors," said Rochlitz, adding a citizen called police that time as well.

West Shore RCMP remind the public to lock vehicles and not to keep valuables in their cars.

"These type of criminals work on what's easy," Rochlitz said.
