Police warn of charity phone scam

Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children is warning that scammers are using the charityB次元官网网址檚 name to seek funding over the phone.

Jennifer Jasechko, vice-president of the QAF, which oversees Jeneece Place, says the charity never solicits for donations over the phone.

B次元官网网址(Someone) is calling and asking for money, and itB次元官网网址檚 not us. WeB次元官网网址檙e not sure if theyB次元官网网址檝e obtained any credit card information, but we want to put the warning out,B次元官网网址 Jasechko said.

Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen said people need to be cautious before donating money to any purported charity, especially over the phone, via e-mail or at the doorstep.

Police say if you fall victim to a scam like this, itB次元官网网址檚 almost impossible to get your money back in a fraud investigation.

B次元官网网址淵ouB次元官网网址檙e largely in charge of protecting those things for yourself. ThereB次元官网网址檚 little to no recourse whatsoever so your best defence is donB次元官网网址檛 give away any money at the door, over the phone or over e-mail,B次元官网网址 Jantzen said.
