Colwood, View Royal departments team up on brush fire

Firefighters worried about potential to reach structures

Considering the critically dry conditions, Colwood Fire Department dodged a bullet dealing with a brush fire early Thursday morning.

When the call came in about a fire in the 500-block of Delora Dr. at about 2:15 a.m., there was initial concern that nearby structures may be at risk, said Assistant Chief Greg Chow.

Because of that, View Royal Fire Department responded as per their mutual aid agreement when structures are at risk.

Five fire apparatus were on scene and managed to extinguish the fire within 45 minutes, with no damage to any structure. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious at this time, Chow said.

"We are asking everyone to be extra diligent in taking every precaution and reporting fires due to the extremely dry conditions," Chow added.
