BADMINTON

Group Stage

WomenB次元官网网址檚 singles: Michelle Li, Markham, Ont., won her match over Thet Htar Thuzar of Myanmar, 2-0 (21-16, 25-23).

MenB次元官网网址檚 singles: Brian Yang, Richmond Hill, Ont., defeated Dmitriy Panarin, Kazakhstan, 21-18, 21-10.

MenB次元官网网址檚 doubles: Adam Dong, Richmond Hill, Ont., and Nyi Yakura, Pickering, Ont., lost to Ben Lane and Sean Vendy, Britain, 2-0 (21-14, 21-12).

BASKETBALL

Women: Shay Colley of Brampton, Ont., scored 11 points and added six assists but the host French team rolled 75-54 over the Canadians in the tournament opener. Canada trailed 38-20 at the half _ only counting two points in the second quarter _ and their next game is Wednesday against Australia, who are ranked third in the world.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Women: Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, both Toronto, won their preliminary-round match over Giuliana Poletti and Michelle Valiente Amarilla, Paraguay, 2-0 (21-16, 21-12); Heather Bansley, Waterdown, Ont., and Sophie Bukovec, Toronto, lost against Xue Chen and Xia Xinyi of China; 2-0 (21-15, 21-19).

BOXING

MenB次元官网网址檚 63.5-kg class: Wyatt Sanford, Kennetcook, N.S., defeated Radoslav Simeonov Rosenov of Bulgaria, 5-0, to advance to the quarterfinals.

CANOE/KAYAK

MenB次元官网网址檚 C1 slalom: Alex Baldoni, Pau, France, was 15th in the semifinals in a time of two minutes and 7.41 seconds _ did not advance.

CYCLING

MenB次元官网网址檚 mountain bike (cross-country): Gunnar Holmgren, Orillia, Ont., was 30th in one hour, 34 minutes and 47 seconds.

DIVING

MenB次元官网网址檚 10-metre synchronized platform: Rylan Wiens, Saskatoon, and Nathan Zsombor-Murray, Pointe-Claire, Que., won the bronze _CanadaB次元官网网址檚 first-ever medal in the event _ with a score of 422.13.

EQUESTRIAN

Eventing (individual jumping): Karl Slezak, Tottenham, Ont., with Hot Bobo, was ninth in qualifying with a score of 12.00; Michael Winter, Toronto (El Mundo) placed 33rd (4.00); and Jessica Phoenix, Cannington, Ont. (Freedom GS), 51st (0.00).

Eventing (team jumping): Canada finished eighth in the final (16.00).

FENCING

WomenB次元官网网址檚 Sabre: Pamela BrindB次元官网网址橝mour, Sainte-Martine, Que., was eliminated in the round-of-32 by Theodora Gkountoura of Greece, 15-3.

MenB次元官网网址檚 Foil: All three Canadians lost in the round-of-32: Blake Broszus, San Jose, Calif., fell to Tommaso Marini, Italy, 15-9; Daniel Gu, Edmonton, to Cheung Ka Long, Hong Kong, 15-5; and Maximilien Van Haaster, Montreal, 15-4 to Guillaume Bianchi of Italy.

GYMNASTICS

Rings: F茅lix Dolci, Laval, Que., was first with a score of 13.633; Ren茅 Cournoyer, Repentigny, Que., placed third (12.866) _ as this was the team event, individual medals were not awarded; William 脡mard, Laval, Que., was fifth (13.366).

MenB次元官网网址檚 artistic (team): Canada finished eighth overall with a total score of 245.426.

JUDO

WomenB次元官网网址檚 57-kg class: Christa Deguchi, Shiojiri, Japan, earned CanadaB次元官网网址檚 first gold medal of 2024 by defeating Huh Mimi, South Korea, by Ippon.

MenB次元官网网址檚 73-kg class: Arthur Margelidon, Montreal, advanced as far as the repechage round where he lost to Manuel Lombardo of Italy, by Ippon, Kata-guruma, in 50 seconds.

ROWING

WomenB次元官网网址檚 lightweight double sculls: Jenny Casson, Kingston, Ont., and Jill Moffatt, Bethany, Ont., finished second in their repechage (7:16.81) and will compete in the semifinals.

WomenB次元官网网址檚 eights (with cox): Canada (Abby Dent, Kenora, Ont.; Caileigh Filmer, Victoria; Kasia Gruchalla-Wesierski, Calgary; Kristen Kit, St. Catharines, Ont.; Maya Meschkuleit, Mississauga, Ont.; Sydney Payne, Toronto; Jessica Sevick, Strathmore, Alta.; Kristina Walker, Wolfe Island, Ont.; and Avalon Wasteneys, Campbell River, B.C.) placed third in their qualifying heat in 6:21.31. The defending gold-medallists from Tokyo will race in the repechage to determine if they can reach the semifinals.

RUGBY SEVENS

Women: Canada (2-1) defeated China, 26-17, to complete the preliminary round. In the quarterfinals, they downed France, 19-14, and will meet Australia in the semis.

SAILING

49erFX: Antonia Lewin-LaFrance and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance, both Chester, N.S., finished eighth, first and 19th on the second day of competition and are ranked 13th overall.

49er: Justin Barnes, Pickering, Ont.; and Will Jones, Aldershot, Ont., were 19th, 13th and 12th to stand 17th with two days remaining in the preliminary round.

SKATEBOARDING

Men: Cordano Russell, London, Ont., placed seventh in the final with a score of 211.80; Matt Berger, Kamloops, B.C., was 11th in the preliminary round; Ryan Decenzo, Delta, B.C., 18th (116.69) _ neither advanced to the final.

SWIMMING

WomenB次元官网网址檚 100 backstroke: Kylie Masse, Lasalle, Ont., posted the fifth-fastest time in the semifinals (58.82), and Ingrid Wilm, Calgary, was one spot behind (59.10) _ both will compete for a medal.

WomenB次元官网网址檚 200 freestyle: Mary-Sophie Harvey, Trois-Rivieres, Que., was fourth in the final (1:55.29), 1.74 seconds behind the bronze-medallist from Hong Kong.

WomenB次元官网网址檚 400 individual medley: Summer McIntosh, Toronto, won the gold medal in 4:27.71 by a margin of 5.69 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher _ her second medal of these Games with her silver in the 400 freestyle; Ella Jansen, Burlington, Ont., was 11th overall in qualifying (4:42.06) _ did not advance.

TENNIS

Women singles: In round-of-32 matches, Leylah Annie Fernandez, Laval, Que., defeated Cristina Bucsa, Spain, 7-6 (4), 6-3, to move on to the next round; Bianca Andreescu, Mississauga, Ont., lost to Donna Vekic, Croatia, 6-3, 6-4 and will not advance.

WomenB次元官网网址檚 doubles: Fernandez and Gabriela Dabrowski, Ottawa, defeated the French duo of Clara Burel and Varvara Gracheva, 6-1, 7-5, and will continue to the second round.

MenB次元官网网址檚 doubles: Felix Auger-Aliassime, Montreal, and Milos Raonic, Thornhill, Ont., were eliminated after losing their opening match to Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, United States, 7-6 (14), 6-4.

WATER POLO

Women: Canada lost their preliminary-round opener against Hungary, 12-7.
