View Royal paddling event cancelled after tragic drowning

In the wake of tragedy, a paddling event set for Sunday will no longer take place.

The casual group paddle in Greater VictoriaB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s second annual WhatB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™SUP Witches event at Thetis Lake is cancelled out of respect for a swimmer who drowned Friday in the View Royal park.

West Shore RCMP were called to the lake on Sept. 29 around 3:40 p.m. after witnesses saw a person go underwater and not resurface, police said in a statement.

View Royal Fire Rescue recovered a body from the water and police have advised BC Coroners Service.
