A Sooke firefighter is set to make his return to the BC Lung Foundations annual Climb the Wall event.
Derek Lambert, a firefighter with Sooke Fire Rescue, Local 4841, has participated in the fundraiser for the past three years. ItB次元官网网址檚 something he says he looks forward to every year.
B次元官网网址淎s a fire department, Climb the Wall provides a chance for us to work together as a team towards a common goal and give back to the community,B次元官网网址 said Lambert.
B次元官网网址淚t also helps encourage healthy habits as we physically train in preparation for the event.B次元官网网址
Climb the Wall was created to bring people together from across B.C. to compete in a unique fitness challenge while supporting lung health in the province. The event challenges participants in a test of endurance as they attempt to conquer 48 storeys of stairs. Last year the event saw almost 200 firefighters participate.
But for Lambert itB次元官网网址檚 about more than completing a physical feat.
B次元官网网址淭his event for me isnB次元官网网址檛 just about the 'climb' and the physical challenge of it; it's a way to honour those who are affected by lung diseases and help fund better treatments, early detection methods, and cures.B次元官网网址
Since it was established in 2002, Climb the Wall has hosted hundreds of firefights as they aim to bring awareness, education, and support for lung disease in B.C.
B次元官网网址淚t offers participants a unique and meaningful experience that is not only about raising money but also about contributing to a greater cause, fostering community, and challenging themselves in ways that go beyond the usual fundraising eventsB次元官网网址
While popular among firefighters, the event is open to anyone who wants to participate and will be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre on March 2.
