New secretary-treasurer joins Sooke School District

Sooke School District has announced the appointment of Brian Jonker as the new secretary-treasurer.

Sooke School District has announced who will be stepping into the shoes of current secretary-treasurer Harold Cull, who will be retiring at the end of the year after 12 years of service.

Assuming the role in January 2025 will be Brian Jonker, whose most recent role was executive director of the marine branch at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

As secretary-treasurer, Jonker will oversee financial operations, strategic planning and resource management of the fastest-growing school district in British Columbia.

In October, Sooke School District said a new secondary school is "urgently needed" after exceeding its projected growth for the 2024-25 school year. Both Belmont and Royal Bay secondary schools were said to be operating over capacity.
