Royal Bay Secondary School students will be going door-to-door across Colwood for charity, in an effort to collect 10,000 non-perishable food items in a single night.
The students are once again taking part in the annual 10,000 Tonight Food Drive, which via the Goldstream Food Bank, will support individuals and families in the West Shore and Sooke communities who may be struggling during the holiday season.
"We are so excited to be hosting this event again and will be sending volunteers door-to-door collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations throughout the city of Colwood," said the school in a news release.
Now considered an important annual tradition, the school says 10,000 Tonight is a fantastic way for students and community members to build a shared sense of identity, and also an essential way to give back to the community.
"Our student leaders work extremely hard to organize this event and we are always amazed at how both our school and local community are able to provide their generous support, year after year without fail," says the school.
The event will be taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 5 to 9 p.m.
To help support the event, the school is asking the community to save non-perishable food items for donation and have them ready for pick-up on Dec. 4.
"Feel free to leave them on your doorstep if you arenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™t going to be home," said the school.
Cash donations or cheques (made payable to the Goldstream Food Bank Society or School District No.62) can be handed in at the school office. Online donations can also be made via the Royal Bay School website: .
