Three years after his disappearance, a Vancouver Island journalist is looking into the case of 54-year-old Ian Indridson.
Releasing on Jan. 24, Laura Palmer's newest season of Island Crime, called Evaporated, will explore the case of the man who seemingly vanished on Jan. 10, 2022.
"He gets up that morning, makes some eggs for himself, makes his wife a pot of coffee, plays with his dog B次元官网网址� he has a little black lab named Willow B次元官网网址� and walks out the door. And that is the last anyone has heard from Ian Indridson," said Palmer.
Indridson, a senior public affairs officer for the B.C. government, was described as a "rock star" by his colleagues, according to Palmer who spent time interviewing his friends, family, co-workers and private investigators while researching for the podcast.
"He's very well regarded by his colleagues. All the senior government communications people I spoke with had nothing but good things to say about the guy and his work," she said. "But then he's also really interested in B次元官网网址� how do I put this? B次元官网网址� stories of people who have decided to walk away from their lives."
In the years before his disappearance, Indridson was reading books and watching documentaries about people who suddenly abandoned their lives, Palmer said. He was especially interested in a book called 'The Man Who Quit Money,' which is about a man who went on to live his life without earning, receiving, or spending money while living in a cave in Utah.
Despite the possible hints and speculation as to what happened, there is still little hard evidence surrounding the case.
"That's the thing with missing person cases. Until there is any kind of definitive evidence to know whether he is alive or dead, the people left behind are left with all these questions," said Palmer. "And this unresolved grief because they don't know where he is or what happened that morning. So that's that's really what the series is about."
Overall, the series, which was prompted after Indridson's wife Gloria reached out to Palmer, not only aims to explore the search and investigation but also looks at what life was like for the friends and family of someone who "just vanishes and under such peculiar circumstances."
The Victoria Police Department said in 2024 that Indridson is 5'11", with a slim build and short grey and black hair. At the time he disappeared, he was believed to have been wearing a dark-coloured Eddie Bauer sweater, black sweatpants and black rubber boots.
