The BC Prosecution Service announced that they will be appointing a special prosecutor on the case of two people who were charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling house.
According to a news release by the service on Jan. 7, one of the accused B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ Savannah Theresa Cooke and Scott William John Munro B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ is related to a provincial judge.
"The appointment of a special prosecutor was made to avoid any potential for real or perceived improper influence in the administration of justice," noted the release.
The accused were both charged on Oct. 30 for their part in the alleged offence on Sept. 9, which was investigated by the West Shore RCMP.
The appointed prosecutor, Chris Johnson K.C., will provide legal advice to the investigative agency, conduct an independent assessment of the charges, make the charging decision appropriate in the in the exercise of his discretion, and assume the conduct of the prosecution in the case.
The accused will appear in court in late January. As the matter is before the court, the prosecuting service will not be sharing more information.
