Metchosin celebrates its past, present and future as it marks four decades in December.

The community is steeped in history, dating far beyond the first European contact in 1790 when Spanish explorer Manuel Quimper entered Pedder Bay and was greeted by a small group of Indigenous people. Local history says James Douglas looked at Metchosin in 1842 as a possible site for the Hudson Bay Company post that was soon to become Fort Victoria.

Incorporated Dec. 3, 1984, the district hosts a 40th anniversary party on Dec. 2 with council following its 7 p.m. council meeting at 4450 Happy Valley Rd. Refreshments will be served.
