The BC Coroners Service are investigating the death of a man in the waters off Oak Bay who was retrieved by a nearby vessel.
According to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, they received the call in the early afternoon on Saturday, Nov. 16 regarding an "individual found unresponsive" in the vicinity of Willows Beach in Oak Bay.
"In response, JRCC tasked Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary 33, Victoria lifeboat, and HMCS Max Bernays. However, these assets were called off, as a nearby civilian vessel was able to retrieve the individual and transport them to the nearby Oak Bay Marina," noted an emailed statement from the JRCC.
The case was then transferred to B.C. Emergency Health Services, and the coroners office says they are investigating, though are not able to share any further details as it's an open investigation.
