West Shore Rebels general manager and former Langford councillor Roger Wade died on Tuesday, July 23, the team confirmed in an email to Black Press Media.
No details have yet to be released, and the team will release a full statement on Thursday, July 25.
Wade lived in Langford with his wife, son and two daughters for over 37 years. He worked as a councillor for the City of Langford with former Mayor Stew Young.
"He was the type of guy who would give you his shirt off his back," Young said.
Wade was elected to Langford Council in 2008, as reported by Black Press Media.
During his time with the council, he served as chair of the Langford Protective Services Committee, chair of the Transportation and Public Works Committee, vice-chair of the Planning Zone and Affordable Housing Committee, and vice-chair of the City's Parks, Recreation, Culture, and Beautification Committee.
In an email from the West Shore Rebels, the team said the death of Wade came as a shock.
"We extend our deepest condolence to his family B次元官网网址� his wife Gina and his children Danica, Stephen and Gianna B次元官网网址� as well as his friends and everyone in our football community during this difficult time," read the email. "Roger's dedication and passion for both the team and the City of Langford were unparalleled and will be greatly missed by all."
On Facebook, the City of Langford said that Wade was known as an exemplary leader, well-respected, devoted, and pivotal in his role in bringing recreation opportunities to his municipality.
Flags will be lowered across the city in honour of Wade.
