A 4-kilometre section of West Saanich road closes due to downed power lines on Dec. 16.

Drivers on the Saanich Peninsula were warned to avoid West Saanich Road after downed power lines early Monday (Dec. 16).

Also known as Highway 17A, the road was reduced to single-lane-alternating traffic between Mount Newton Cross Road and McTavish Road shortly after 4:30 a.m. after power lines came down, according to Emcon Services, South Island Division.

The road reopened as usual shortly ahead of 8 a.m.

BC Hydro did not report any power outages in the area.
