Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria Capital Region (BBBSV) is aiming to raise $1.875 million to support kids in need.

The local non-profit, which has been matching vulnerable youth with trusted mentors across the Capital Region for almost 50 years, says that now more than ever, local families, schools, and children are reaching out for support. Currently, over 150 children in Greater Victoria are looking for a mentor, with some waiting two years before they can be matched up.

According to BBBSV's executive director Amanda Hill, this problem stems from a lack of funding.

B次元官网网址淚t costs us about $2,500 to match one child with one mentor," she said in a news release. "That cost includes safety screening, mentorship training, administrative costs, match activities and consistent support for one year. In these uncertain economic times, we simply canB次元官网网址檛 meet the costs for all the kids in our community who need us."

That's where the non-profit's new 75 Doors campaign comes into play. BBBSV is asking local businesses to sponsor a door for $2,500. Each sponsorship will pair up a child with a mentor.

"Every dollar invested in mentorship reduces barriers for our youth and adds value to their future. With the help of our community, we hope to unlock 75 doors to match 75 young people with mentors."
