Saanich gardeners, get your shovels ready and pack your seeds as another growing season is just around the corner.
The Blenkinsop Community Agricultural Centre is set to open around March 1, providing nearly 14 acres of farm plots, community gardens, and a small retail space dedicated to supporting local agriculture.
Located along the 4000-block of Blenkinsop Road, the centre is the first of its kind on Vancouver Island and a rare concept in Canada. Founders Lee Smith and John Espley said the initiative will provide much-needed access to farmland, support food security, and offer educational opportunities.

The centre will partner with local non-profits to run educational programs and grow food for the community. It also aims to provide a resource for those living in condos and apartments, allowing them to cultivate their food.

Fees for garden allotments are structured to be affordable, with leases costing less than a monthly streaming subscription.
