A windy night may be to blame for random power outages and at least one tree blocking a Saanich road Tuesday (Feb. 25) morning.
A tree down on Ross Durrance Road is both blocking traffic and resting on lines, with a power outage in the area reported shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday B次元官网网址� impacting 17 BC Hydro customers.
Other outages in the region include a handful in the Dean Park area and nearly 50 in the neighbourhood between Willingdon and Bazan Bay roads in North Saanich.
Nearly 2,400 customers lost power shortly before 4 a.m. in the area of McKenzie Avenue and Highway 17. BC Hydro expects to have that restored by 9 a.m.
Environment Canada issued wind warnings for large sections of Vancouver Island as a low-pressure system approached the coast late Monday. Those warnings were rescinded early Tuesday.
Weather stations in Greater Victoria registered wind gusts as high as 96 km/h at Discovery Island, 78 km/h at Gonzales, 74 in the Inner Harbour and 67 km/h at the Victoria International Airport in North Saanich.
