Live music fans on the Saanich Peninsula arenB次元官网网址檛 singing the blues after Tom Lavin and the Powder Blues announced their return to Sidney.

The Vancouver-based blues band will be performing at the Mary Winspear Centre on Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Attendees can expect to see hear hits such as DoinB次元官网网址� It Right, Boppin With the Blues and Thirsty Ears.

B次元官网网址淎 lot of people come to the shows expecting to hear their favourite Powder Blues tune,B次元官网网址� Lavin said. B次元官网网址淲eB次元官网网址檝e had a number of hit records on the radio. We might be playing the same songs, but weB次元官网网址檙e playing them at a higher level. I really want to make sure that no one goes away disappointed. You owe that to your audience.B次元官网网址�

Lavin wrote DoinB次元官网网址� It Right on the back of a pizza box in 1978.

B次元官网网址淎fter ordering that pizza we recorded it right there and then,B次元官网网址� Lavin said. B次元官网网址淚 wish I kept that pizza box, but we got rid of it that night. I should have framed it.B次元官网网址�

The band doesnB次元官网网址檛 have any definite plans to record new music in the near future.

B次元官网网址淎t a certain point, we will eventually get back in the studio,B次元官网网址� Lavin said. B次元官网网址淭hereB次元官网网址檚 no rush, but IB次元官网网址檝e got some songs.B次元官网网址�

Powder Blues concerts are quite spontaneous.

B次元官网网址淲e approach shows with improvisation,B次元官网网址� Lavin said. B次元官网网址淧eople are on their toes. I think there is an element of spark and magic that you donB次元官网网址檛 find in many other forms of music outside of blues or jazz. ThatB次元官网网址檚 something different about our show.B次元官网网址�

There wonB次元官网网址檛 be an opening act for the Mary Winspear Centre show.

B次元官网网址淭his gives me time to stretch out and tell stories about how tunes came about,B次元官网网址� Lavin said. B次元官网网址淚 canB次元官网网址檛 do that when I play festivals or dance parties. In a theatre situation, you can get a little more intimate.B次元官网网址�

The band is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, and theyB次元官网网址檝e toured every single year.

B次元官网网址淲e never took a break,B次元官网网址� Lavin added. B次元官网网址淲eB次元官网网址檝e spent our whole lives playing music. ItB次元官网网址檚 been an amazing run. IB次元官网网址檒l probably hang it up once I start having to sit and play. IB次元官网网址檓 going to continue to do it as long as my health and energy hold up.B次元官网网址�

Lavin still loves performing, and he feels lucky to do it.

B次元官网网址淭hereB次元官网网址檚 a lot of smiles at our shows. We can still really burn it up. I really enjoy it. Music is as important to me as eating or breathing. It keeps me going.B次元官网网址�
