Raymond Salgado has gone from singing O Canada at Nanaimo Clippers and Timbermen games to performing the national anthem for B.C.B次元官网网址檚 favourite sports team.
Last week, the Lantzville resident was named winner of the Vancouver CanucksB次元官网网址� Anthem Bracket Challenge, a competition that put eight singers against each other for the chance to sing O Canada before a Canucks game. Salgado made it through all three rounds and is to perform the anthem at Rogers Arena before the teamB次元官网网址檚 match against the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 17.
Salgado said B次元官网网址渋tB次元官网网址檚 always been a dream of mine to sing at a Canucks game,B次元官网网址� but said the win was completely unexpected, especially since he tossed off his audition video at home without much fuss.
B次元官网网址淚 was actually with my best friend and [I was] just like, B次元官网网址楬ey, I need to record this audition, do you want to just stand back for a second?B次元官网网址� and it was just really random,B次元官网网址� Salgado said. B次元官网网址淚 just didnB次元官网网址檛 expect anything to happen from that because usually when I send an audition I make sure that IB次元官网网址檓 in a well-lit place, the lighting is great, IB次元官网网址檓 well dressed, but I was like, B次元官网网址楴aw, IB次元官网网址檒l just send it and see what happens.B次元官网网址橞次元官网网址�
Salgado said he felt like he could have done a better job on his submission and wasnB次元官网网址檛 thrilled when he learned the same video would be used for each round of the competition, but he thinks his B次元官网网址渟incereB次元官网网址� performance is what won over voters.
B次元官网网址淚 think because I wasnB次元官网网址檛 so in my head that it was just natural,B次元官网网址� he said. B次元官网网址淏ecause sometimes IB次元官网网址檒l overthink videos, like when IB次元官网网址檓 doing a cover of a song IB次元官网网址檒l practise and practise and try to make it as perfect as it is.B次元官网网址�
Salgado describes his version of O Canada as a B次元官网网址渕ore contemporary and more soulfulB次元官网网址� rendition, adding that B次元官网网址渋tB次元官网网址檚 one of those songs that you donB次元官网网址檛 really want to touch so much B次元官网网址� but you still want to give a little bit of yourself.B次元官网网址�
Salgado said there will be more preparation for his live performance than for his audition. HeB次元官网网址檒l be training with his vocal instructor in the weeks leading up the performance and trying out the song in different keys. He said he expects there will be B次元官网网址渟o many emotionsB次元官网网址� when he takes to centre ice, but said B次元官网网址淚 just really have to have fun and enjoy the moment because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.B次元官网网址�
B次元官网网址淚 am going to be a little bit nervous because I havenB次元官网网址檛 sang live in a long time,B次元官网网址� he said. B次元官网网址淚t will be so nerve-racking for me but overall IB次元官网网址檓 obviously so ecstatic for this opportunity and I feel like this is just another stepping stone for my career as a singer.B次元官网网址�
The Canucks season has been disrupted by a COVID-19 outbreak that has led to six games being postponed. As of this writing however, the April 17 game remains on the schedule.
